Robbins, Monferdini Take Last Two Seats on Tucker City Council

There was good cause for celebration late in the evening yesterday, March 29, as the unofficial election results were announced and locals in District 2, Matt Robbins and Noelle Monferdini took the last two seats on Tucker's new city council.  Save Tucker!'s leadership was advocating for the election of these candidates, who had been narrowed down to a smaller group from the large  number originally in the March 1 race.  Quite a bit of controversy was started when the other council members and the mayor chose to go ahead and begin the business of the new city without waiting for District 2 council elections to be completed.  They were sworn in during a historic ceremony and that left more than 10,000 people, a full third of the new city, feeling  very angry and slighted.  Monferdini and Robbins both passed the Save Tucker! residency check, which we ran on all candidates after becoming concerned when we had difficulty reaching one after months o...

TRANSCRIBED: Shakleford to Friends, "What Do You Think About Maybe Annexation. And, You Know, We're Next to Chamblee."

Ben Shakleford says he reached out to people he knew after the Lavista Hills referendum failed at the ballot box and asked, "... what do you think about maybe annexation?  And, we're next to Chamblee." If you haven't heard, a portion of the former Lavista Hills movement (which is also formerly the Lakeside City and City of Briarcliff initiatives) has not stopped pushing for a city, any city as long as it is not in any way related to Tucker, even after losing in the referendum vote this past November.   So, far, we have heard them say that they have: Trimmed up their map, calling it the "North Lavista Hills" area, basically cutting things off at Briarlake Road, but taking in all the commercial not already in Tucker, most notably the Northlake Mall which they have said they do not shop at themselves, Brought back Mary Kay Woodworth to lead the effort until she quits, again, Cut out some of the areas that they initially claimed were the ones to star...

Senate Committee Declares Tucker Unconstitutional

Posted by Dan Whisenhunt on Decaturish.com .   December 16, 2015 The new city of Tucker, which was overwhelmingly approved by voters on Nov. 3, has an unconstitutional provision in its charter, a new report says. Additionally the report finds that while charters for new cities may provide a cap on tax rates, there’s nothing that requires cities to seek voter approval before raising taxes. At a Tucker 2015 meeting held in October, just before the Nov. 3 city referendum was held, organizers were still telling residents about the benefits of a "limited government," as Anne Lerner is seen here doing, while Michele Penkava (front row, far right) looks on.  Both women are now running for city council seats in District 3, though not against one another.  Each of the three districts will have two city council members.  Elections take place the first week of March 2016.  The Senate Annexation, Deannexation and Incorporation Study Committee me...

Report Possible Voter Fraud to the Proper Authorities

Lavista Hills Alliance wants  you to report potential fraud to them and then they will tell the proper authorities. That's: YOU ------->    LAVISTA HILLS ALLIANCE ==>  PROPER AUTHORITIES The County Interim CEO wanted employees to blow their whistles for Mike Bowers and then he would alert the proper authorities if he found anything.   That is:  WHISTLEBLOWERS --------------->  MIKE BOWERS ------------> PROPER AUTHORITIES Do you see the potential for problems with the above scenarios?  Save Tucker! would like to recommend another approach.  It would go something like this: YOU ---------------->  PROPER AUTHORITIES    or WHISTLEBLOWERS ===============> PROPER AUTHORITIES In the current scenario with the "unsecured memory card" being located and then checked for possible fraud, however, we don't really see where there is a need for anyone to be contacting any authority othe...

Tucker 2015 Misleads Audience by Suggesting Forced Annexation is a Realistic Fear

This guy? AGAIN??

Do you remember when Save Tucker! called your attention to a random guy  who appeared to be a "super fan" of cities in DeKalb County, GA?   He was pictured as one of the "citizens" in the "grass roots" movements for BOTH Lakeside City AND Stonecrest.    Here is our original post:   titled, "Lakeside and Stonecrest are More than Just Friends."      BUT, now we have learned something NEW.      "THIS GUY" from the Lakeside City and Stonecrest groups is ALSO the same as   "THIS GUY" from Brookhaven!   Yes, that's right... take a look for yourself....   "THIS GUY" is pictured with Mary Kay Woodworth and Co. at a big press announcement for Lakeside City. "THIS GUY" then appeared in a City of Stonecrest photo op as they exercised their rights of free speech and assembly.   AND NOW, WE HAVE LOCATED "THIS GUY" AGAIN, INVOLVED IN A THIRD CITY MOVEM...

Tucker 2015's Frank Auman Exposed as a Jive Talkin' Lobbyist!

Vote No on Nov. 3 to Frank Auman, a jive talking lobbyist who doesn't even live in the current boundaries of Tucker. His front group's new map takes on expansive territory with a shaky financial plan that could put the entire region at risk of a state takeover and permanent division. With a $4 million budget for administration alone, the boutique city would add a new layer of bureaucracy that will only add to the corruption problems already impacting DeKalb County and the entire metro Atlanta region. Frank Auman was hired based on a plan that originated in the office of former County Commissioner Elaine Boyer, now in federal prison for defrauding her constituents. Don't be fooled by her plan, Tucker. Vote NO on NO-NO-NOVEMBER 3!

The Media Gets It Wrong, Again!

HQ For DeKalb's Police, Fire Rescue, Emergency Management, Public Safety, 911 and more!  This is Tucker! But a report coming from this location does NOT mean the crime was committed in T ucker. The news media falsely reported that a crime was committed in Tucker, simply because they were getting information from the police HQ, which is located in Tucker. This is not the first time this has happened. Save Tucker! posted the correct locations based on the addresses given by police from the beginning.  (see above.)  We asked for a retraction.  We have also asked local media to  please be more careful in their rush to get a story on the air.  Many Tucker residents were on edge as they were being told the carjacking happened in their community. Because this subject did come up again, it gives us another opportunity to point out to the residents of the proposed Lavista Hills that they should seriously be worried about the plan to form a dep...

Lakeside and Stonecrest are More Than "Just Friends."

Two photos for two new proposed cities, but both featuring at least one supporter who believes he belongs in BOTH groups.   What OTHER similarities are there between these two "rivals" that their supporters may not know about?   How exactly did all of these proposals supposedly come "from the people" but ended up wanting the exact same things, with the exact same slogans and now, we learn, the exact same people.   In fact, Lakeside City was started by a group of people who stated that one of their main motivators was that they did not want to be included in a proposed City of DeKalb.  Later, Stonecrest was started, the story goes, because of the efforts to start a city of Lakeside in North DeKalb.   Before all of this, there was "Brookhaven YES."  Now, we have "Lakeside YES" and "Stonecrest City YES."   How stupid do they think we all are that we cannot see they are all part of the same plan? Either write ...

When the Tucker Community Asked for Police, DeKalb County Gave Them Police (and that was 100 years ago!)

Tired of hearing people in DeKalb County misrepresent how you, as a Tucker resident, feel about the DeKalb County police and the job they are doing?   When Tucker residents told the city advocacy group at their onset that they did not want to start a city police force, opponents thought this concept would be one they could latch on to and use against them. "Why doesn't Tucker want a police force?" they would say.  Well, the answer is pretty simple:  we already have one.  The DeKalb County police department does an outstanding job protecting Tucker and the rest of the county. But, there actually was a time, about 100 years ago, to be exact, that Tucker residents were not so happy with their police protection.  That's because they didn't have any!   According to an  article in the Champion this week about the 100th commemorative year of DeKalb's finest, residents of the Tucker community wanted police protection, so they pressured the DeKalb Count...

DeKalb County's District 5 Still Without ANY Local Representation

Photo credit: The Champion News On Dec. 23, the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners once again could not fill the empty District 5 seat. Commissioners are divided about how to fill the seat. Commissioners Larry Johnson, Sharon Barnes Sutton and Stan Watson want to approve the nominee by interim CEO Lee May. Commissioners Kathie Gannon, Nancy Jester and Jeff Rader say they are concerned about the process and don’t want May to appoint his own successor. The man in the middle of the political impasse is Lithonia resident George Turner Jr., president of the District 5 Community Council and former legislative aide in District 43 of the Georgia State Senate. The vote on the appointment was deferred on Aug. 12 and Aug. 26. On Sept. 9 there was no vote because there wasn't a second to the motion. On Sept. 23, Oct. 14, Oct. 28, Nov. 4, Nov. 9 and Nov. 18 the appointment failed to get the four votes to pass. For a map of the County Commission Districts, click here . Full ...

Jester wins District 1 Runoff; Residents of Tucker Gerrymandered Out; Committee Meets to Set Boundaries

Residents of North DeKalb just did the exact thing that they constantly accuse the residents of South DeKalb of doing... they returned yet another person to office despite knowing that there have been serious doubts or concerns with that person's governance abilities and despite knowing that the candidate has been linked to the failure in the county school system.   According to the AJC... Republican Nancy Jester will become DeKalb County’s next commissioner after defeating independent Holmes Pyles in a runoff election Tuesday. Jester replaces Elaine Boyer, who pleaded guilty to defrauding taxpayers of $93,000 and resigned in August. She will represent more than 140,000 people in Brookhaven, Chamblee, Doraville, Dunwoody, Tucker and surrounding areas. Turnout was very low Tuesday, with only 7 percent of registered voters casting ballots. What more can we say? If you don't show up to vote, then your vote cannot be counted. If you are gerrymandered out of  your...

What Ferguson Means in DeKalb County

First read this:  From Yahoo News:  WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama said Monday he wants to ensure the U.S. isn't building a "militarized culture" within police departments , while maintaining federal programs that provide the type of military-style equipment that were used to dispel racially charged protests in Ferguson, Missouri.  Instead, the president is asking Congress for funding to buy 50,000 body cameras to record events like the shooting death of an unarmed 18-year-old Michael Brown and look for ways to build trust and confidence between police and minority communities nationwide . He announced the creation of a task force to study success stories and recommend ways the government can support accountability, transparency and trust in police.  Attorney General Eric Holder announced on Monday new Justice Department plans aimed at ending racial profiling and ensuring fair and effective policing. "In the coming days, I will announce updated Jus...
