You may have heard recently about the accusation that DeKalb County government is "rotten to the core." It's an interesting choice of imagery, isn't it?  Since apples are commonly thought of in the context of the school system, this particular statement is a reminder to many DeKalb residents about the close call we had with the school board that was reprimanded by SACS and then removed by the Governor. Why, though, are we not reminded about the particularly bad job our own school board member did at the time all of these SACS violations were taking place?  Perhaps because that particular board member was a very well known PRO-LAKESIDE leader who even threw his own neighborhood under the bus because of something that was going to be good for "Lakeside."  In fact, the one school that was NOT complaining about the school board members, probably because they were fairing pretty well compared to everyone else, was LAKESIDE. First, there's the story of Bob Lundsten , written about here .   A DeKalb County grand jury indicted Bob Lundsten last month on nine charges of theft and making false statements, accusing him of using his government-issued purchasing card for buying things for personal use, and then lying about it. Lundsten was arrested Thursday and is out on a $15,000 bond. (Dunwoody) Lundsten's arrest follows on the heels of  the admission of guilty by our former county commissioner, Elaine Boyer and her husband , John Boyer.   The sentencing hearing for Mr. Boyer is scheduled for May 6, 2015, at 2:00 p.m., before Judge Evans.   Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey W. It's  hard to believe it, but it appears that now the "Lakeside" group is trying to drive doctors away from Tucker, which will be a big blow to our retirees and senior citizens.  Many residents enjoy the convenient access to "Lavista Office  Park," because they can see all their doctors in one place without multiple car rides or having to get on busy interstates and freeways in our area.   A recent rezone request made at the March county commissioners meeting was made by a person we believe is known online as "Randy Rand."  The public hearing takes place April 28.  We believe he is the owner of the office park and reportedly gave  his tenants until May 1 to vacate the building.  Some of these doctors have been in business more than 15 years in this one location.  The short notice will not allow them to move as a group and makes it very unlikely the will all be able to remain in the Tucker area.  The rezone...

Photo credit: The Champion News On Dec. 23, the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners once again could not fill the empty District 5 seat. Commissioners are divided about how to fill the seat. Commissioners Larry Johnson, Sharon Barnes Sutton and Stan Watson want to approve the nominee by interim CEO Lee May. Commissioners Kathie Gannon, Nancy Jester and Jeff Rader say they are concerned about the process and don’t want May to appoint his own successor. The man in the middle of the political impasse is Lithonia resident George Turner Jr., president of the District 5 Community Council and former legislative aide in District 43 of the Georgia State Senate. The vote on the appointment was deferred on Aug. 12 and Aug. 26. On Sept. 9 there was no vote because there wasn't a second to the motion.
