Blueprint for DeKalb Moves Forward - Save Tucker! Members Invited to Attend Kickoff Meeting Sept. 30, 6:30 p.m.

Dear Friends,

Thank you for endorsing the Blueprint to Redefine DeKalb; your voice is essential to its success. I urge you to stay involved and help as a citizen’s force to push for the next steps that are needed to start bringing real reform to DeKalb County government. There are two easy things you can do to bring about change:

FIRST, attend the September 30th public meeting in the Maloof Auditorium at 6:30 PM to hear the leadership team’s proposed reforms and to provide feedback. We will also discuss implementation and the citizens’ role to push reform through state and local government.

SECOND, recommend the Blueprint’s website, www.BlueprintDeKalb.org, to your circle of friends and neighbors and ask them to endorse and attend the meeting. The Board of Commissioners, the Interim CEO and the DeKalb Delegation to the General Assembly need to hear from as many people as possible.

I am very proud that a group of engaged neighborhood leaders have taken the original Blueprint’s principles that I drafted and advanced to developing real reforms that will put DeKalb County back onto ethical and competent footing. It is not the complete solution but it is a significant beginning. If you want changes in DeKalb government, you must participate now and during the upcoming months when the General Assembly goes into session. I urge you to attend the public meeting on Tuesday, September 30th and to spread the word about the Blueprint to Redefine DeKalb.

Welcome to Smoke Rise, Soon to be Tucker, GA

This could be the change that residents will see if Tucker 2015 is successful in getting its referendum nto a ballot and voters approve it. The driving force behind the city of Tucker has been the leadership within the community known as "Smoke Rise, GA." Smoke Rise residents currently have addresses that say "Stone Mountain, GA" and many of them worked hard in order to create a separate identity for themselves, petitioning the U.S. Post Office to change their official name to "Smoke Rise." While the Post Office did not agree to change the official name, they did agree to allow "Smoke Rise" as a recognized alternative to "Stone Mountain" that could be used interchangeably as long as it accompanied their 30087 zip code. Mr. Levitas, Did You Know Where Tucker Was When You Represented It?

From the time of the first announcement ever made about a "Lakeside City" (now called "Lavista Hills), we heard the name "Kevin Levitas" associated with it. It wasn't clear if he was the leader or if it was Mary Kay Woodworth, or possibly both of them together in a typical PTA type of shared credit, deflected blame. But, what we did NOT know until much later was the very long standing love/hate relationship that Mr. Levitas has with our community. We don't know or understand all the factors that have gone into his crusade to destroy Tucker any more than we can understand a politician who switches parties but maintains that his own philosophy on life has remained the same (which was also something Levitas did, along with others including our own Governor of Georgia).
